Rediscovering Digital Visual Spaces
Andrew Friedrich (born in 2000 in Singen) moves in his work between still lifes, surreal motifs, and a deep exploration of materials. At first glance, his paintings seem familiar. At the same time, they challenge our visual habits and invite us to look more closely.
He is currently deepening his practice in the Master’s program at the HFBK Hamburg under Anselm Reyle, having completed his Bachelor’s degree at Alanus Hochschule für Kunst und Gesellschaft (2020–2023) in Andreas Orosz' class. This path shapes his painterly independence. Friedrich explores digital visual spaces and sensitively translates them into our analog present.
In doing so, he brings a fascinating, almost digital materiality to the canvas using oil and acrylic. Color layers, condenses, and extends into the space. His works do not emerge as smooth reproductions. They grow out of a living process in which spatiality and materiality play the leading roles.
We are very pleased to present Andrew Friedrich here in Frankfurt’s Nordend and to support him as an artist. Reach out to us, to discover his work.
