Lukas Zimmermann - Urban Poetry in Color and Form

Lukas Zimmermann (born 1999 in Troisdorf) transforms everyday urban moments into visual narratives brimming with atmosphere, depth, and quiet melancholy. His paintings and large-scale wall works condense seemingly casual observations into multi-layered visual worlds that oscillate between suburban homes, dollhouses, and model-making - interlocking, composed in flat planes, and poetically charged.

Zimmermann conceives of his painting as a theatrical production. He collects moments of light, the play of facades, childhood finds, and everyday banalities like props - and uses them to construct pictorial spaces that play with scale and perspective. Deserted streets backlit by the sun meet figures who seem detached from their surroundings. The familiar tips into the dreamlike. His works deliberately navigate the tension between chaos, meaning, and everyday banality.

What makes his visual language unique is the improbability of his sources of inspiration: the flood in the Ahr Valley, which brought home to him the existential significance of houses. An excursion to Tuscany, where he recognized in Giotto’s Renaissance frescoes a similar visual logic as in Barbie houses and Playmobil worlds. Between these poles - catastrophe and childhood, high art and toys - Zimmermann’s very own visual language unfolds.

Zimmermann studied fine art at Alanus University under Prof. Andreas Orosz, with whom he is currently a master’s student. Since 2017, he has worked as a freelance artist whose murals shape urban spaces far beyond his hometown. Awards such as the Walls of Vision Prize (Hans Riegel Foundation), the Alanus University Rundgang Prize, and the Germany Scholarship confirm his artistic relevance.

We look forward to showing you his work at the E30 Gallery Frankfurt.
