Philipp Alexander Schäfer: Between Algorithms and Asphalt - Art at the Pulse of the Digital Present
Philipp Alexander Schäfer is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary art in Frankfurt. His work explores the interface between analog tradition and digital transformation, always searching for the poetic moment in an increasingly technological world.
Born in Frankfurt in 1980, the artist became known for his "City Ghosts" - iconic ghostly figures that have characterized the cityscape for over two decades.
For several years now, he has been creating works in which analog painting merges with digital tools. Particularly impressive are his oil paintings on recycled computer circuit boards. The unusual painting surface becomes a critical reflection on consumption, AI and perception - and at the same time a haptic, technically precise statement on the present.
Schäfer's work bridges tradition and innovation. It combines social relevance, material experimentation and aesthetic depth - a rare interplay that makes his works coveted contemporary witnesses of our digital present.
His awards include the CITOYENNE Prize and a working grant from the Hessische Kulturstiftung. His works have been shown on renowned public and private platforms, including the Heussenstamm Gallery in Frankfurt, the OSTRALE Biennale O21 in Dresden, and the exhibition "Streams Upstream" as part of the European Capital of Culture Kaunas 2022.
As an artist, Philipp Alexander Schäfer not only documents the changes of our time, but also challenges them artistically.
