It's about time
9 November - 20 December 2024
In art, too, everything revolves around time: paint that dries, memories captured with a brushstroke, looking back in art history, looking forward to new technologies. Time is the element that connects everything - “It's about time!”
In his works, Julien Deiss takes famous sculptures and portraits from past eras, reconstructs them and transfers them to the canvas using oil and other materials. His latest series freezes time in a five-second 3D scan of a bust of David, creating a link between real and virtual space. This reveals the cyclical nature of time, in which we only ever perceive partial aspects of a whole.
In his oil paintings on computer board, Frankfurt-based artist Philipp Alexander Schäfer deliberately reflects on a core issue of our time: the way people deal with technology and artificial intelligence, which are increasingly shaping our everyday lives.
The American-Mexican artist Alexander Tadlock has been living in Frankfurt for three years and has created works for this exhibition in which his signature style is unmistakable: the juxtaposition and intertwining of abstraction and realism. He focuses on people, combines surreal elements and thus places space and time in a philosophical context with the finite nature of existence.
