Catching Light

30 January - 6 March 2026

When light becomes matter: Three perspectives on space, brilliance, and shadow

In our first exhibition of the year, “Catching Light,” we focus on the most fleeting of all materials: light. We bring together three positions that not only depict light, but also capture, refract, and construct it. You will experience how painting leaves two-dimensional space and becomes a physical experience - whether through deep layers, architectural rigor, or vibrant geometry.

Sebastian Menzke (Berlin) lets you see deep inside. We are showing his epoxy resin works, which technically bridge the gap between the old masters and the radical present. Menzke layers paint and resin on top of each other to create an almost sculptural depth. The light does not simply bounce off the surface; it penetrates the image, catches in the transparent layers, and makes the colors glow from within. It is a play on perception: the liquid appears solid, the solid appears fluid. His works invite you to change your perspective and observe how the image changes with every step.

Tobias Stutz (Bonn), we bring a quiet but intense atmosphere to the gallery. We present works from three of his series: the iconic “Wohnmaschinen” (Living Machines), based on the type of residential building created by the renowned architect Le Corbusier, the intimate “Polaroids,” and the format-breaking “Shaped Canvases.” Stutz doesn't just paint architecture; he paints the idea of space and light. His deserted modernist buildings and facades are projection surfaces for longing. You can literally feel the warmth of the sun on the concrete and the coolness of the shade. In the “Shaped Canvas” series in particular, he breaks out of the classic rectangle and allows the image object itself to become architecture on the wall.

The Dane René Tromborg (Copenhagen) brings rhythm to the exhibition. As a former Brooklyn (NY) music producer and songwriter, he transfers musical structures to the canvas. His geometric compositions combine the clarity of Bauhaus with the energy of graffiti and pop art. We are showing works in which Tromborg plays with “twisted compositions” and double perspectives. His colors vibrate and create a visual flicker - as if you were seeing a beat instead of hearing it. Tromborg's works are precise but hand-painted, giving them a warm, analog soul.

“Catching Light” is a dialogue between fluid depth (Menzke), atmospheric silence (Stutz), and geometric rhythm (Tromborg). Three ways to make the incomprehensible visible.

We invite you to experience these magnificent works with us at the start of the year.
